During the construction of the residential palace in Rastatt, Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden ensured that the Franciscans from Fremersberg in Baden-Baden were able to build a monastery near Rastatt Palace. The exterior of the former monastery in Herrenstraße has remained almost unchanged to this day and has been the focal point of the Protestant parish since secularization.
